Habitat for Humanity of Douglas County (HFHDC) was awarded $151,500 from Thrivent Financial to build two homes in Alexandria, with construction to begin in May.

From the national partnership’s inception in 2005, Thrivent Financial and its members have now committed more than $200 million and more than 4 million volunteer hours.

The funding is part of an ongoing partnership between Thrivent Financial and Habitat for Humanity International, Thrivent Builds with Habitat for Humanity.

Locally, this award brings Thrivent Financial’s investment in Douglas County over the $1 million mark. The Thrivent Builds program has helped to engage local congregations, volunteers and donors and has challenged them to meet build milestones.

Thrivent Financial is committing $12 million nationally to the 2014 partnership. The funding will be used to serve families and mobilize volunteers through three programs within the Thrivent Builds partnership: Thrivent Builds Homes, Thrivent Builds Worldwide and Thrivent Builds Repairs.

● In Douglas County, two Thrivent Builds Homes will be built this year.

● HFHDC completed four repair projects through the Thrivent Builds Repairs program in 2013 and looks to partner for projects in 2014.

● Thrivent Builds Worldwide allows Thrivent members and others to give financially and volunteer their time.

“The partnership with Thrivent Builds has been instrumental to our work in Douglas County,” said Lori Anderson, HFHDC executive director. “Beyond the significant financial investment, Thrivent Builds has helped us to develop organizational capacity and has played a key role in our ability to serve more families in need.”

Thrivent Financial is represented in the local area by a number of financial representatives. Individuals interested in contacting a local Thrivent Financial representative can find more information at www.thrivent.com.
